Celebrate love on Shabbat with heart-shaped challah-pops!

Oh, hi there. Will you be my challah-tine?

challah heart

Challah-tine (like Valentine…with challah…get it?) We’re so clever!

The word “Love” in Hebrew is Ahavah! We think every day is a good day to tell the special people in your life that you love them, and with so much love in the air this month, we wanted to celebrate love of family and friends this Shabbat with heart-shaped challah-pops!

My younger daughter and I became quite the cake-pop bakers a few years ago. Little cakes on a stick are just so cute, so we decided to make bitty challah-hearts on a lollipop and share them with our friends this Shabbat. These little heart challahs are extra-easy since they’re made with store-bought refrigerated cinnamon rolls! So let’s go make some Challah Heart-Pops!

Challah Heart-Pops

Here’s what you’ll need to make about 20

  • Refrigerated cinnamon rolls (we used Pillsbury Grands!)

  • Sprinkles

  • Frosting (Bonus: our rolls came with icing)

  • Sharp knife

  • Lollipop sticks

If you’re packaging them up:

  • Small treat bags (optional)

  • Bakers twine (optional)

  • Scissors (optional)

Here’s how we made them:

1. Pop open your cinnamon roll container. Take out one cinnamon roll, and put the remainder in the refrigerator to stay cold. Unroll the strand, and using a sharp knife, cut it into 4 even pieces as shown below.

2. Cut one small section into three strands.

3. Squish pieces together at the top, and braid the three pieces together.

4. Voila! A bitty challah. It’s so cute. I’m in love. Let’s turn it into a heart.

5. To make a bitty heart, roll in the ends of the challah until they meet it in the center, and carefully form it into a heart.

6. Ah. So cute! Take the lollipop and gently stick it into the bottom of the heart. Reshape the point of the heart if needed. Repeat with the other pieces of dough.

7. I like to bake four challah hearts at a time. They go into a 350 degree oven for about 12 minutes, or until they are golden. While they are baking, you can work on your next strand of refrigerated dough (follow the steps above) until you have used up all the dough.

8. After 12 minutes, take them out of the oven. They should be nice and golden. Let them cool completely on the tray before handling them. As they cool, they will become more study on the stick too.

So much love. Now, if you’d like, you can frost with the icing that comes with the dough or…

Pink frosting and sprinkles.

If you’d like to give them out as Challah-tine treats, package them up in small bags and tie them with bakers twine.
