Experiencing a honey tasting for the New Jewish Year

The Hebrew word for sweet is Ma-tok! Honey comes in many varieties (from flowers, citrus, and even palm trees - if you live in Florida)! It's fun to have a family honey tasting to see which honey tastes sweetest for Rosh Hashanah apple dipping! Honey tastings can happen at a farmer’s market, bee farm, or even a specialized grocery store. You might even buy several of your own varieties and invite friends over to sample, and then everyone can vote on their favorite!

When children have the opportunity to enjoy the sweet taste of honey, they are experiencing the Jewish value Hoda'ah (appreciation).

Let us know if you have a honey tasting, and which variety you liked best. In our house, its orange blossom!

Make a DIY Honeybee crown for Rosh Hashanah, and discover more family outings for the Jewish New Year with a sweet way to say goodbye to mistakes, an apple and honey picnic breakfast, Birthday of the World nature walk and how butterflies can help children learn about the Jewish new year!

Shana tova! Happy New Year!
