This blog is filled with ideas to turn everyday moments into Jewish moments, especially for families with young children.

Hello, Spring

Hello, Spring

The season of life, optimism and hope

Spring (Aviv in Hebrew) has always been my favorite season. It reminds me of birthdays (mine ♥) and flowers. Right now outside my front door there are hundreds of gardenia buds just waiting to pop open, and across the street, my neighbor’s Tabebuia tree announced spring’s arrival last week by blooming thousands of pink flowers.

What I love most about spring is its promise of hope. This year, it couldn’t have arrived at a more poignant time. In Judaism, spring is the season of life, victory and optimism. If there was ever a time and place to celebrate spring, it is now.

Oh, hi little bird. (Last week in Seattle). ♥

Here are some sweet ways for your family to celebrate spring and the new Hebrew month Nisan which begins this week. Nisan comes from the Hebrew word Nitzan or flower bud. You can click (most) of the photos below, and a link will take you to a blog post to further explore these activities.

There are so many ways to celebrate spring, but our favorite of all is sharing a hug with someone you love under a blossoming tree. If you are able to do so, you can even say a blessing for reaching season and this special moment in time.

Ba-Ruch A-tah A-do-noi, Elo-hai-nu Me-lech Ha-o-lam, she-hech-e-yanu, v'kiy'manu, v'higiyanu laz'man hazeh.

In Judaism, spring is the season of optimism and hope.

Share with us some ways you are celebrating spring in the comments below. I hope this new season and this time of renewal, brings optimism and hope to you and your family. Be well and be happy.

Happy spring. ♥
